The Armed Forces of Haiti have received new Senator RAM MRAP armored vehicles, manufactured by the Canadian company Roshel, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen security and combat gang violence.

The delivery, carried out on November 8, was attended by the Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, Major General Jonas Jean, and marks the first part of an initial order of 17 units. The vehicles were acquired to provide greater mobility and protection to the troops operating in conflict zones and areas of territorial instability.

According to the Minister of Defense, Jean-Michel Moïse, the acquisition program is part of a broader plan to rebuild the essential capabilities of the Haitian Army, which also includes the purchase of aircraft and vessels. Presidential advisor Leslie Voltaire stated that the government aims to gradually strengthen the armed forces and expand the state’s presence in regions dominated by armed groups, as part of an institutional and territorial recovery strategy.

The Senator RAM MRAP armored vehicles are designed to withstand ambushes, explosives, and small arms fire, being used in patrol, escort, and secure personnel transport missions. Their arrival is expected to support joint operations between military and police forces to regain control of strategic areas, protect vulnerable facilities, and ensure the transport of humanitarian aid amid the worsening security crisis in the country.
